The roman theatre and the cinema of Antibes

In roman times, Antibes was an important town with up to 20,000 inhabitants.⁽¹⁾ It had a theatre and an amphitheatre. Both were demolished, in the 16th and 17th centuries, respectively. We don't know where the amphitheatre was located, but the place of the theatre is known. It was a relatively large one, with a diameter of 72 m⁽²⁾, and with the stage on the east side, about in the middle of the present-day Rue Fourmilière.

Which means, in fact, that the theatre was located at the place of the current cinema, the Cinéma Casino. A coincidence.
