Patti Smith sings her support for Edward Snowden

A big “bravo!” for Patti Smith!

Last night she gave a concert at the Nuits du Sud in Vence. She was in great form and so was her band. Of course, she ended with the punk-rock classics that made her famous, but the first part also had new material, including a song that must have been made in the last three weeks, “Edward Snowden.”

As Patti sang, Edward Snowden was still stuck in the transit zone of Moscow's Sheremetevo airport. Her text said “nobody wants you but I do.” Which isn't quite true. For many people Edward Snowden is a hero.

She seems to have sung the song also in Hamburg on the 6th of July. The Hamburger Abendblatt reports on the concert and notes that she got a lot of applause for the song.

Maybe the Hamburg public is more engaged than the Vence one, because I thought the applause could have been more enthusiastic.
